Irvine, CA. (February 7, 2012) – Most active Minibike racers got their start on either the Z50 or Honda XR/CRF50 so they are considered by many to be the roots of Minibike racing. TBParts.com has been in business for over 15 years and still sells a lot of parts to people that enjoy riding and racing the “older”, smaller bikes so they have stepped up to sponsor the classic classes for 2012. Each class will be limited to just 10 entries on a first come first served basis so if you are interested in racing at the biggest MiniBike race in the world, you better act quickly.

You can get the complete rules here: 2012 MiniMotoSX Rules

November 14, 2011

From: The MiniMotoSX Staff

Dear MiniMotoSX Participants and Fans,

The MiniMotoSX team (MMSX) wants to address some concerns and questions regarding the 2012 event. Please allow us to provide an honest explanation on why the event will be back at the Orleans Arena and held on Sunday, May 6th.

After 7 successful years at the Orleans we were told that we would have to move to the South Point Hotel for the 2011 race (Due to a conflicting convention booked many years ago). Without a choice, we accepted the offer to be relocated to the South Point for 1 year instead of canceling the event. This was an agreement between the Orleans and South Point Hotel. Separately, the ArenaCross promoter booked the South Point for the same weekend for their World Finals.

We all enjoyed and appreciated the South Point venue and the dirt/track was great for the event but we knew it was only a one year agreement. That said we spent most of the summer trying to make something work to move the MMSX to the South Point. Sadly we could not make it work so we chose to go back to the Orleans Arena, which has also been a great venue for MMSX. It is important to note that the management at the Orleans and South Point were extremely accommodating and supportive of any options.

To further complicate matters for MiniMotoSX, the difficult times in the motorcycle market contributed to the loss some major sponsors, which make it extremely difficult to create a top level event. We were faced with 2 options: Simply cancel the event or find a different way to make it work. We decided to look at different avenues and realized that combining the event with the EnduroCross on the same weekend would save significant production cost. This is the reason the MMSX will be held on Sunday instead of the traditional Friday night.

We are all very passionate about MiniMotoSX, which is still the largest Mini Bike race in the world but sometimes reality kicks us in the butt and we have to make changes to keep it viable. We are already working very hard to make the 2012 race very fun and we look forward to seeing you at the Orleans.

All the best,
MiniMotoSX Staff

Las Vegas, Nevada (May 6, 2011) – For the past seven years, Willy Browning has been one of the favorites to win the AMA GEICO MiniMotoSX but something always prevented him from winning even one main event. But tonight, at the South Point arena in Las Vegas, Browning dominated all three expert main events on his CHP mini bikes. He started by taking the 10 Inch Expert class victory over Ryan Abrigo and Michael Blose. He later came back to win the 12 Inch Expert class over Derek Costella and Kyle Partridge and then took his third main even win of the night in the World Final, which takes the top three finishers in all of the premier classes. The improbable trifecta win earned Browning $9,000 for a night of mini bike racing!

The 2011 GEICO MiniMotoSX, presented by Monster Energy and Braaap USA had 15 separate AMA number one plates on the line for expert, amateur, vet and youth classes. For the Experts, there was $18,000 in purse money on the line so you know that is going to lead to some intense racing.

Matthew Skerrett beat fellow Austrialian Mike Reefman in the 35+ Vet class. Tatum Sik took the lead from defending women’s champion Erika Short and never looked back to win her first MMSX over Jackie Ives and Katie Cyr. Zac Hays won the Vintage main over Shea Koester and Robert Rexrode.

Drake Williams won the 12 Inch Amateur class over Tomokuni Osada and Matthew Skerrett. Hiroshi Nakayama made the trip from Japan pay off with a victory in the 10 Inch Amateur class over Robert Rexrode and Kevin Papaeko.

10 Inch Stock/Mod was won by Clint Johnson over Duane Brown (one of the BBR brothers) and Joshua Sheffer. Tiger Lacey defended his title in the 12 Inch Stock/Mod class over Michael Horban and Drew Petrie.

The 12 Inch Youth class was won by Daniel Maynet over Kyle Davis and Dillon Drummen. Killian Woder won the 10 Inch Youth class over Dillion Drummen and Tyler Walker. Carson Brown dominated the 12 Inch Youth 9-13 year old class to make up for giving away the lead on the last lap at last year’s event. Robbie Wageman, the defending Champion finished second ahead of Zachary Bierbower.

In the Gas Versus Electric battle, the Gas bikes were given a head-start, which proved insurmountable and Shawn Rhinehart won on a Honda CRF150. Jamie Lanza was closing fast on his Zero when he was involved in a big crash trying to get into second overall. Jay Maloney was the second gas powered bike across the line followed by Blake Mitchell. Blake Mitchell was the first Electric bike across the line followed by fellow Zero pilots Chris Green and Jamie Lanza.

Irvine, Calif. (April 29, 2011) – The MiniMotoSX event has been a proving grounds for electric motorcycle technology for several years now. After a few years of demonstration races (The first of which included former Supercross champion Jeff Emig), last year the electric bikes were combined with the 16 inch wheel gas bikes in a head to head battle. The gas powered bikes, which are limited to air cooled “play bikes”, proved to be out gunned as the electric bikes dominated the class by taking the top six positions. 2011 will be a chance for redemption for the gas powered racers and further bragging rights for the battery powered bikes, which is expected to include at least one new-to-dirt brand trying to up the ante.

Drew Gosselaar rode a Quantya to the victory last year but was joined on the podium by Chris Dvorack and former World Motocross Champion Sebastian Tortelli riding Zero’s. It is difficult to pick a favorite for 2011 as Quantya has not shared any plans for an official effort while Zero has factory Husqvarna WORCS/EnduroCross competitor Jamie Lanza joining their test rider and engineering technician, Trevor Doniak and Dirt Rider Associate Editor Chris Green all aiming for the top step of the podium. And to make the second annual Energy Crisiscross more interesting, Brammo, which has a proven line of electric street bikes and a frontrunner in electric motorcycle road racing events has thrown their hat into the ring. Brammo has been guarded with the details about the bike and riders but you can expect some major announcements next week. If you want to see what could be the future of fun in the dirt, you need to get out to Vegas on Friday, May 6th.
